Elite Sports Massage & Rehabilitation is in Saint Stephen New Brunswick specializing in physical performance and sports massage.

The core concept of Elite Sports Massage & Rehabilitation is to assist each individual in reaching their peak performance through in-depth analysis and appropriately selecting the best intervention to optimize human performance.

  • Reduced stress levels.

  • Performance optimisation.

  • Injury prevention.

  • Increased joint range of motion.

  • Reduced muscle tightness.

  • Increased injury recovery

  • Increased blood circulation and lymphatic flow.

  • Improved flexibility

  • Improved posture.

Sports Massage

It is the most advanced type of massage that combines a variety of techniques (deep tissue, trigger points, joint articulation, stretching) to address specific soft tissue problems - post acute injuries as well as chronic pain.

It is design to reduce muscular pain and restore full range of motion.

It is a part body treatment, a typical session lasts 30min, on average 3 sessions needed.

It can be effective in treating common problems like:

  • Neck and shoulder pain

  • Tension headache

  • Lower back pain

  • Hip pain

  • Frozen shoulder

  • Tennis/golfers elbow

  • Piriformis syndrome

Deep Tissue

It is a style of massage that focuses on the deeper layers of muscles. It aims to release tension in the body through slower strokes, firm pressure and trigger point's treatment. Heat might be used to aid relaxation.

It is a full body massage, although traditionally hands, feet, face and head are left out, they can be added if wanted.

Sessions are available as 30min or 60min slots. Can be enjoyed as one off treatment or as regular monthly sessions.

Cupping is an ancient method of treatment that has been used in the therapy and cure of a broad range of conditions throughout the Eastern and Western cultures of the world. Conditions of blood and muscular related disorders such as hypertension, rheumatic conditions ranging from arthritis, sciatica, displaced bones, ligaments and spine, back pain and migraines through to psycho-social applications in the treatment of anxiety and general physical and mental well-being. It is a comfortable, safe and effective treatment to alleviate local congestion and stagnation of blood flow: a vacuum is created in glass cups placed on the skin by means of heat and suction which draws up the underlying tissue, removing old stagnating blood and toxins, breaking down adhesions and releasing fascia around the muscles, improving mobility and flexibility right after each treatment. Cupping therapy has been further developed as a mean to open the meridians of the body to conduit energy flows to every part of the body and trough every organ and tissue. It can be used as stand alone treatment or combined with massage therapy: different cupping techniques such as flash, localised and moving cupping are used to treat a variety of conditions which will be advised by the practitioner. Dark circular marks are usually left on the skin typically 3 to 5 days, could be more if the skin type is very fair.

Following a soft tissue injury, whether this be from cummulative trauma such as working at a computer or from an acute tear such as  a hamstring strain, bleeding and subsequent scarring occurs leading to adaptive shortening of the soft tissue structure, reduced range of motion, dysfunction and possibly pain or stiffness.

Graston Technique Instrument-assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (GISTM) is an advanced form of soft tissue mobilization that is used to detect and  release scar tissue, adhesions and fascial restrictions.

This patented form of soft tissue mobilisation utilises six stainless steel instruments to glide along a patient’s muscles, tendons and/or ligaments. When these areas of adhesions are encountered, the Graston tools can be used to break down this scarring.

The Graston tools can also be used to separate larger muscles which are bound together through scar tissue formation. An example of this is between the Serratus Anterior which is located on the back of the ribs and the Subscapularis which is located on the front of the shoulder blade. These soft tissue restrictions can result in dysfunction in the motion of the shoulder blade on the thorax which can contribute to shoulder injuries such as an Impingement Syndrome

So how does Graston technique work?

The technique

  • Separates and breaks down collagen cross-links, and splays and stretches connective tissue and muscle fibers

  • Increases skin temperature

  • Facilitates reflex changes in the chronic muscle holding pattern

  • Alters spinal reflux activity (facilitated segment)

  • Increases the rate and amount of blood flow to and from the area

  • Increases cellular activity in the region, including fibroblasts and mast cells

  • Increases histamine response secondary to mast cell activity

Active Release Technique

ART is a soft tissue technique that uses movement to help the healing process of muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. ART is a useful technique used at Elite Sports Massage & Rehabilitation to treat the following conditions:

ART sessions are usually most effective when paired with a muscle manipulation.

Scar tissue is often present with repetitive injuries which prevents the soft tissue from moving correctly and healing properly. This can cause reduced range of motion and/or pain. If a nerve becomes involved, there may also be numbness, tingling and/or weakness.

The Treatment
When a problem is found, a specific protocol is chosen. A precise amount of pressure is applied aiding in the breakdown of the scar tissue. Most of these conditions occur due to one important commonality: over usage. These are usually from:

  • Pulls, tears, collisions etc. (Acute conditions)

  • Micro-trauma (Accumulation of small tears)

  • Not enough oxygen to the muscle/tendon (Hypoxia)

We use Active Release because it helps many muscle related conditions resolve quickly.

Assisted Stretching

These sessions are a combination of massage and various advanced methods of passive and active stretching. They are design to improve flexibility and increase a range of motion.

Brilliant for dancers, runners, body builders and many other sports active people.

Used in rehabilitation, electrotherapy is very effective in removing muscular spasm, retraining and strengthening muscles that have been overused or injured. When used with massage therapy it can greatly reduce healing times, reduce sensitivity during treatment and prevent treatment after soreness.
